Meal vouchers are regulated non-cash benefits issued by employers to employees for purchasing food at eligible businesses — restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, and food-related retail. They are a standard employee benefit in Bulgaria and across Europe.

VINR supports the same meal voucher providers active in France:

  • Sodexo (Sodexo Pass)
  • Up (formerly Ticket Restaurant, now part of Edenred group)
  • Swile
  • Ticket Restaurant (Edenred)

In Bulgaria, meal vouchers are governed by the Bulgarian Labour Code and are a standard employee benefit. The same providers operating in France — Sodexo, Up, Swile, and Ticket Restaurant — are accepted through VINR.

Eligible merchant categoriesAsk

Meal vouchers can only be used at businesses in food-eligible merchant category codes (MCCs). Typical eligible categories include:

  • Restaurants and cafés
  • Grocery stores and supermarkets
  • Bakeries and food specialty shops
  • Catering services

Payments attempted at non-eligible MCCs are declined by the voucher provider. Ensure your VINR account is configured with the correct MCC for your business before enabling meal vouchers.
